Cardinals fan honors late owner with fancy headgear

The signature symbol of the Cardinals' 1982 World Series championship run made an appearance at Busch Stadium on Monday night.

Ed Noonan sported the Cardinals Cowboy hat -- popularized by late owner August A. Busch Jr., who wore the hat most notably during the 1982 Fall Classic -- as the Cardinals celebrated the 30th anniversary of their ninth world title this past weekend. Still in a celebratory mode, Noonan sported the 10-gallon again to the delight of neighboring fans.

Noonan received the red headgear in the 1970s as a gift from the Cardinals for being a loyal advertiser during his days with Century 21. The sombrero may be more than 40 years old and showing signs of wear, but it remains a beauty in the eyes of this Cardinals fan, who now resides in San Diego.

"When the Cards play at Petco Park next month, I will be wearing it there," he said.

Now that's loyalty.
