SD@PIT: Burnett fans 10 over 5 2/3 innings of work

Given how poorly the Pirates have played the last few seasons, it's not a surprise the Dodgers boast a fairly good record against Pittsburgh.

But what is somewhat unusual is how much Los Angeles has dominated the Pirates this season, during Pittsburgh's best campaign in recent memory.

The Dodgers will attempt to complete the season sweep of the Pirates on Thursday as the two clubs meet for the seventh and final time in the regular season.

Overall, Los Angeles has won nine straight and 12 of their last 13 games against the Pirates. The franchise record for consecutive wins over Pittsburgh is 13, which was set in 1952.

Taking the mound for the Dodgers on Thursday will be Joe Blanton. Acquired from the Phillies on Aug. 3, the 31-year-old is still looking for his first win with his new club after two outings.

In his last start, Blanton allowed four runs on six hits over five innings against the Marlins.

"He was rolling along, his pitch count was down and [he was] doing what he wanted with the ball," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of Blanton after the game. "Then all of a sudden the switch got flipped and he couldn't keep them from hitting the ball hard. As the inning went on, even after they scored two, I thought he would stop the bleeding and recover and go back out."

Trying to halt the streak for the Pirates will be A.J. Burnett. Searching for his 15th win of the season, Burnett took a loss his last time out, giving up four earned runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings to the Padres.

"I missed some spots on my sinker, and it hurt me," Burnett said after the game. "I had a good hook tonight. That was probably all I had. As for being able to pitch in consistently, I was off. I was missing over the middle, and they drove some balls."

Dodgers: No Hairston update
• Mattingly didn't have any updates on infielder Jerry Hairston, who was recently placed on the 15-day disabled list with left hip inflammation. Mattingly said Hairston underwent an MRI on Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET.

"We just haven't heard any results yet," Mattingly said on Wednesday.

• Brahiam Maldonado, an outfielder at Double-A Chattanooga, was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week after batting .500 (10-for-20) with two doubles, two homers and three RBIs in six games last week.

Pirates: Walker dislocates finger
• Second baseman Neil Walker was knocked out of Wednesday night's game against the Dodgers in the first inning due to a dislocated finger in his right hand. X-rays came back negative for a break, and Walker is hopeful of avoiding any time on the disabled list.

"I'm very optimistic about a quick return," Walker said following the Pirates' 9-3 loss to Los Angeles.

Walker had a splint on his right little finger. He is scheduled to see a hand specialist on Thursday, but based on a similar past experience, anticipated a short absence.

Walker dislocated a finger on his left hand in 2009, an injury that also included a tear in a ligament.

Worth noting
• Shane Victorino extended his hitting streak to nine games with three hits on Wednesday.
