This Day in Baseball History:
December 27, 1995 > Hall of Fame umpire Al Barlick dies at the age of 80 in Springfield, Illinois. Barlick became one of the youngest umpires in Major League history when he made his National League debut at the age of 25. Known for his decisiveness and hustle on the field, the feisty Barlick worked NL games from 1940 to 1972. He was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1989.
