Now you've got one. Major League Baseball will be holding an open casting call on Tuesday, Jan. 25, for a new round of its "I Live for This" television commercials. The Cardinals are one of six teams whose fans are being invited to participate, along with fellow 2004 playoff clubs the Red Sox, Astros, Yankees, Angels and Dodgers.
Any and all fans 8 and older are invited to attend, though fans aged 8-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each participant or his/her parent or guardian will be required to sign a consent release. The most impressive fans -- judged by enthusiasm and dedication to the team -- will be flown to Miami in February to shoot a commercial.
Since being introduced in September 2003, MLB's "I Live for This" campaign has highlighted the passion and intensity players -- including such marquee names as Pedro Martinez, Derek Jeter and Sammy Sosa -- exhibit for the national pastime. In the six spots being cast, fans of six teams that participated in the 2004 postseason will have an opportunity to demonstrate exuberance for their teams and express excitement about the 2005 season.
Casting calls are scheduled as follows (all times are local):
"The 'I Live for This' campaign is about passion for the game of baseball," said Tim Brosnan, executive vice president of business for Major League Baseball. "While the original commercials featured our players talking about what drives them to compete at the highest level, Major League Baseball fans also exhibit an extraordinary level of passion for the game they love."
The casting call in St. Louis begins at noon CT on Tuesday, but fans may line up beginning at 9 a.m. outside Gate 7 (Walnut Street entrance) of Busch Stadium.
