Participating in an event for the Rally Foundation, Rolen scored a resounding victory in a bubble-blowing contest before the Cardinals' exhibition game against Florida Atlantic University. Rolen bested not only teammate John Gall, but a slew of kids who came out to participate.
The event was part of a series of contests at camps throughout Florida to benefit the Rally Foundation. The foundation is trying to raise money to benefit children's cancer research.
"I have a bigger mouth than all of these youngsters, and I think that puts me at a distinct advantage," Rolen quipped.
"Volume, that's it. Quantity, not quality. The more you get in your mouth, the better you're going to be."
Rolen's biggest bubble, using Big League Chew gum, was measured by teammate Sidney Ponson at 11 1/2 inches. That outdid the top kids competitor, Ashley Perry of Moore Haven, Fla.
"A lot of money is going to cancer research right now, but there's not much that's going to children," said Rolen. "That's surprising. You'd think that most of the money would be going to children and that it would be a very well-funded research program, and it's not right now."

Reid's rocket wraps up Redbird rally: A six-run eighth inning gave the Cardinals a 6-1 win over Florida Atlantic in an exhibition game at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday. Reid Gorecki launched a three-run homer to cap the uprising.
"I felt like I was getting good pitches to hit in my first three at-bats, and I wasn't doing anything with them," said Gorecki. "Then I got my hands set to where [coach Tommy Gregg] told me they should be, and I just got good barrel on the ball."
Aaron Miles kicked it off with a single and later scored on Chris Duncan's RBI broken-bat single. Scott Spiezio's RBI double broke a tie, and Michel Hernandez brought home a run with a dropped bases-loaded popup to center that went for a forceout at second.
Andy Cavazos was credited with the win for a shutout eighth inning. John Webb and Randy Leek each pitched two shutout frames. FAU used aluminum bats in the game, while the Cardinals used wood.
"The score was very misleading," said manager Tony La Russa. "We were close to getting beat."
Flores feeling fine: Left-hander Randy Flores is trucking along as though he didn't undergo elbow surgery this past winter. Flores threw his third live bullpen session on Tuesday, and he's been quite encouraged by his throws.
"It feels better," said Flores, when asked to compare this spring to last. "[My elbow] was bothering me last spring. So all systems are go. It keeps progressing as I push it."
Flores is expected to make his first game appearance on Friday night against the Mets at Port St. Lucie.
One left: The Cardinals agreed to terms with John Rodriguez and Yadier Molina on one-year contracts on Tuesday. So Taguchi is the last remaining unsigned player in camp. Starting March 2, teams may automatically renew the contract of any unsigned player.
Bits and pieces: The Cardinals will have their photos taken on Wednesday, as well as three-dimensional "headscans" for video games. ... Rule 5 draftee Juan Mateo threw to hitters for the first time on Tuesday. ... Molina is expected to remain with the Cardinals through Saturday before heading to Port St. Lucie to play for the Puerto Rican team in the World Baseball Classic.
Quotable: "I'm a one-dimensional kind of guy." -- La Russa, on why he doesn't expect to be asked to do a headscan
Weather report: Wednesday's forecast calls for a nice, warm day. The high should be close to 80 degrees with partly cloudy skies and light winds.
Coming up: It's one last quiet day for the Redbirds on Wednesday. They have a workout that will get rolling at around 9:30 a.m. ET, with a "coaches game" to cap it off. Grapefruit League play gets started on Thursday with a 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Mets at Roger Dean Stadium.
