Of all the Cardinals farmhands who played winter ball, perhaps the most pleasant surprise was Amaury Cazana Marti.

The 32-year-old Cuban defector played with the Peoria Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League and batted .345 (29-for-84) with four home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Marti's performance in the AFL boosted his stock, despite his advanced age.

Here's how the Cardinals other Minor Leaguers fared in various winter leagues:

Arizona Fall League

RHP Dennis Dove -- The 25-year-old right-hander made six relief appearances for the Saguaros, allowing two runs over 9 1/3 innings. Opponents batted .129 against him.

LHP Eric Haberer -- Haberer appeared in seven games for the Saguaros and did not receive a decision. The Illinois native allowed five earned runs over 10 innings for a 4.50 ERA.

RHP Mike Parisi -- After allowing 14 runs over his first 11 innings, Parisi closed the season by yielding one run in his final five frames for the Saguaros. The 23-year-old finished with a 7.88 ERA and a .265 opponents' batting average.

RHP Stuart Pomeranz -- The 21-year-old right-hander was 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA in six starts for the Saguaros.

SS Brendan Ryan -- Ryan was a regular in the Saguaros' lineup. He shared the league lead with 39 hits, drove in 20 runs and scored 19 while batting .310.

OF Nick Stavinoha -- The 24-year-old Texan batted .218 (17-for-78) with a homer, eight RBIs and four runs scored for the Sags.

Dominican Winter League

RHP Kelvin Jimenez -- Jimenez was 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in five relief appearances with the Estrellas Orientales.

RHP Gustavo Martinez -- Martinez struggled out of the bullpen for the Leones del Escogido as he went 1-1 with an 8.22 ERA over 15 1/3 innings.

C Danilo Sanchez -- Sanchez appeared in 25 games for Leones del Escogido and hit just .175 (11-for-63).

Mexican Pacific League

LHP Troy Cate -- Cate was 0-1 but pitched well in four playoff starts for Venados de Mazatlan. The converted reliever allowed eight runs on 14 hits while striking out 27 over 26 2/3 innings. Cate went 3-1 with a 1.21 ERA in six appearances (four starts) in the regular season.
