Marlins at the plate: Joe Borchard doubled in the second inning. Dan Uggla, Alfredo Amezaga and Josh Willingham each singled, providing the only four hits off Adam Wainright. Mike Jacobs, Borchard and Miguel Olivo each singled in a scoreless seventh, but the Marlins were unable to take advantage of the string of hits.

Cardinals at the plate: Albert Pujols walked to start off a two-run sixth inning. Scott Rolen had an RBI double, and Adam Kennedy's run-scoring single made it 2-0. Chris Duncan collected the first hit for his team, an infield single in the fourth inning. Gary Bennett singled with one out in the fifth, and David Eckstein doubled in the frame, but the Cardinals stranded runners on second and third with two outs. Jim Edmonds went hitless in three at-bats, appearing in his second Grapefruit League game. Edmonds was lifted in the middle of the fifth.

Marlins on the mound: Impressive again, Sergio Mitre tossed five shutout innings, enhancing his chances for being the fifth starter. The right-hander threw 68 pitches, 46 of them for strikes. Mike Koplove allowed two runs on two hits with three walks and a wild pitch in one-third of an inning.

Cardinals on the mound: Wainright, who will pitch the fifth game of the regular season, tossed six shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out six. The right-hander didn't yield a walk, and he tossed 81 pitches (52 strikes). Jason Isringhausen worked the seventh, giving up three singles and a walk, but he stranded the bases-loaded.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 10-16-2; Cardinals 13-10.
