Tender Rays: No players will be leaving
Club offers contracts to every member of 40-man roster
ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have tendered contracts to all of the players on their 40-man roster.
Wednesday night at midnight was the deadline to tender contracts to all players under their control and none of the players on the Rays' 40-man roster -- which currently stands at 38 players -- will become a free agent from not being tendered a contract.
Arbitration eligible players on the Rays include: Grant Balfour, Gary Glover, Jonny Gomes, Scott Kazmir, Carlos Pena and Dan Wheeler.
The Rays had to offer contracts to 30 of their 38 players by Wednesday. In many cases this was just a formality since the players were not yet arbitration eligible.
While the Rays tendered all of their players, they will be active looking over the list of non-tendered players from other teams' rosters to perhaps fill a need.
The Rays are rumored to be close to a deal with veteran Cliff Floyd, who would answer their need for a left-handed hitter who can play the outfield and DH. They also would like to find a left-handed reliever and a utility infielder.
