Padres at the plate: Pinch-hitter Edgar Gonzalez continued his strong spring with a two-run single in the third inning. Tony Clark had two hits, including an RBI double in the first inning. Michael Barrett had two hits, as did Luis Rodriguez. Center fielder Will Venable hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, his second of the spring.

Rockies at the plate: Troy Tulowitzki had a solo home run in the first inning, his lone hit in three trips to the plate. Ryan Spilborghs, hitting leadoff, had an RBI triple. He also walked and scored a run. Chris Iannetta had a hit and stole a base for the Rockies.

Padres on the mound: Starting pitcher Jake Peavy allowed two runs on four hits over three innings and even added an RBI single. The reigning Cy Young winner looked sharper than his first start. He struck out four batters. Lefty Joe Thatcher walked in a run. Glendon Rusch, in his first outing since being hit on the calf with a ball, looked good as he tossed two scoreless innings.

Rockies on the mound: Starting pitcher Mark Redman struggled mightily in his three-inning stint, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits. Four of those runs came during a four-run third inning. Matt Herges looked considerably better, throwing two scoreless innings. Josh Towers, however, didn't fare as well, allowing two runs on six hits over two innings.
