Cards savor road win over Twins
Izturis, Schumaker drive in two runs apiece for St. Louis

Monday, March 24 Cardinals at the plate: D'Angelo Jimenez singled in the fourth inning to drive in the first run for the Cardinals. Cesar Izturis hit a single to center later that inning to plate two more runs. Skip Schumaker went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for St. Louis. Twins at the plate: Mike Lamb doubled to lead off the third inning, and Matt Tolbert drew a one-out walk before Michael Cuddyer delivered a two-run double to left field. It was one of two hits on the day for Cuddyer, who singled to right to lead off the sixth. Delmon Young hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth. Cardinals on the mound: Starter Brad Thompson pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out four in the outing. Twins on the mound: Right-hander Brian Bass made his first start of the spring, and he gave up two runs on three hits in three-plus innings. Bass walked three and struck out two Cardinals. Left-hander Dennys Reyes tossed one inning, giving up one run on three hits. Jesse Crain hurled one scoreless inning, allowing one free pass. Grapefruit League records: Cardinals 14-10-2, Twins 13-12. Up next for the Cardinals: The Cardinals will return home to Jupiter, Fla., on Tuesday for the first of their final three games in Florida. Right-hander Anthony Reyes will face Opening Day starter Odalis Perez and the Nationals at 12:05 p.m. CT. Up next for the Twins: Right-hander Kevin Slowey will get the start on Tuesday, as the Twins head to Bradenton, Fla., to take on the Pirates. Slowey will face off against Pittsburgh right-hander Ian Snell. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. CT.
