Molina, after jawing with Schrieber, was separated from him by La Russa. Molina continued to argue, and he showed his displeasure by removing all of his catching gear and tossing each piece near Schreiber's feet as the umpire and La Russa continued talking.
Shortly thereafter, La Russa was tossed. Jason LaRue, who tweaked his left knee Sunday and had to ice it before Monday's game, replaced Molina -- who was batting second. The Cards already were missing Albert Pujols, who was being rested.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, St. Louis right-hander Adam Wainwright missed with the first pitch against Corey Hart. Molina appeared to turn his head to argue, and Schrieber walked around the plate to face Molina and the argument heated up.
The Cardinals trailed at the time, 7-1, with Brewers slugger Ryan Braun hitting two home runs. The Cards had dropped four of five games coming in.
