Explosion near PETCO rattles Cards
Glaus, Duncan were two blocks away at time of blast
SAN DIEGO -- No Cardinals personnel suffered injuries in a construction-site explosion near PETCO Park on Monday, but a couple of players felt some blowback from the blast.
Third baseman Troy Glaus and outfielder Chris Duncan were arriving at the ballpark when the explosion occurred at approximately 2 p.m. PT. They were signing autographs near the players' entrance, just a couple of blocks from the under-construction Hilton Hotel where the explosion took place.
Both players said they felt concussion in the air from the blast, as well as a jarringly loud noise.
"It was definitely an explosion," Glaus said.
According to news reports, 13 people were injured, two of them critically.
