Cardinals at the plate: Outfielder Rick Ankiel launched his fifth home run of the spring, a two-run shot to center field, to give the Cardinals an early 2-0 lead. Khalil Greene hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Chris Duncan was 2-for-4 with an RBI double. In the eighth inning, third-base coach Jose Oquendo, a former star for the Cardinals in the 1980's, pinch-hit and drew a walk.
Redbirds at the plate: Outfielder Shane Robinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tyler Greene, who competed for a spot on the Cardinals bench, was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. Cardinals on the mound: Starter Joel Pineiro went seven strong innings in his final tuneup for the regular season, giving up three runs on three hits. Only two of the runs were earned for Pineiro, who struck out six and walked two. Redbirds on the mound: Starter Mitchell Boggs gave up six runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Adam Ottavino fared much better in relief, giving up one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Up next: The Cardinals fly to St. Louis after the game and will hold a workout, weather permitting, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT at Busch Stadium.
