ST. LOUIS -- David Freese has joined Troy Glaus on the comeback trail.Freese, who has been sidelined since May 14 due to a left ankle injury, played in a game for the first time in more than two months on Sunday. Freese played three innings at third base for the Cardinals' Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate. He singled in two at-bats and started two double plays in the field.
Glaus, meanwhile, played left field and first base for Class A Palm Beach on Saturday as he continues to try to recover from right shoulder surgery. The club believes his continued throwing difficulties may be better shielded in left field than at his usual third base. Primarily, the hope is that Glaus' right-handed power will boost the St. Louis offense.
"He moves well enough as an athlete, but we'll see how he's throwing," manager Tony La Russa said. "It's not a harder throw [from left field]. Just hit the cutoff man. You're going to get exposed once in a while, with a guy tagging up from first or a guy from second going home. Just hit the cutoff man."
