Two will represent Cards at Futures Game
Pitchers Miller, Sanchez will be on opposing teams
ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals prospects Shelby Miller and Eduardo Sanchez will give fans a glimpse of their potential during the 2010 All-Star weekend, with both being tabbed Tuesday for the Futures Game on July 11 in Anaheim.
Miller, a first-round pick out of high school from the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, was selected to the U.S. roster Tuesday, and the native Venezuelan Sanchez will compete for the World team.
Miller has started 11 games for the Cardinals' Class A Quad Cities affiliate this season. The right-hander has flashed his potential throughout the year, striking out 58 batters in 44 1/3 innings pitched, but registering a 1-3 mark and a 4.79 ERA. Redbirds fans can expect to see a mid-90s sinking fastball and a serviceable slider from the 19-year old.
A reliever for Double-A Springfield, Sanchez has gone 1-1 with 10 saves and a 3.24 ERA, fanning 26 batters over 25 innings and holding opponents to a .222 average.
Former Futures Game selections include current Cardinals Colby Rasmus, Jaime Garcia and Ryan Ludwick.
The 12th annual Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on XM 175. MLB.com will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game.
