The Cardinals' list of Spring Training non-roster invitees grew by one on Friday with the addition of Scott Linebrink, who signed a Minor League deal just eight days before pitchers and catchers are required to report to camp.
Linebrink, 35, pitched in Atlanta last season, where he posted a 3.64 ERA in 64 relief appearances. The right-hander struck out 42 and walked 21 in 54 1/3 innings. The season marked the final one of a four-year, $19 million contract Linebrink signed after an '07 season in which he finished with a 3.71 ERA in 71 appearances.
His 2011 season was interrupted by a lower back strain, which landed Linebrink on the disabled list for two weeks in August.
Linebrink has a career ERA of 3.51 over his first 12 seasons, which included stops with six organizations. He made a career-high 73 appearances in three straight seasons beginning in '04 and posted a career-low 1.83 ERA with the Padres in 2005.
The Cardinals have now invited 11 non-roster pitchers and 10 non-roster position players to Spring Training.
