ST. LOUIS, Mo, April 20, 2012 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have placed first baseman Lance Berkman on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19, with a left calf strain.

The team also announced that it has recalled Skip Schumaker from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Memphis (AAA) and activated the outfielder/infielder from the 15-day disabled list.  Schumaker is expected to join the Cardinals tonight for the opening game of their weekend series in Pittsburgh.

Schumaker had been sidelined with a right oblique injury.  He appeared in four games at Memphis during his rehab assignment, and was 3-for-13 with two walks and two strikeouts.
