  • Baseball Assistance Team names Indians, Mets recipients of Bobby Burcer Award

    The Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.) has named the Cleveland Indians and the New York Mets recipients of the 2017 Bobby Murcer Award for the American League and National League, respectively. The Award, which is named after the former B.A.T. Chairman honors the team in the American League (Cleveland) and National League (New York) whose players, managers and coaches pledge to contribute the most amount of money to B.A.T during the 2017 Spring Training Fundraising Tour. The annual tour was founded by Murcer to raise money for members of the Baseball Family in need of assistance. This marks the first time the New York Mets organization has won the Award and the second time for the Cleveland Indians, which received the A.L. recognition back in 2014. The Clubs succeed the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers, which received the Award in 2016.

  • Mets pitcher Familia disciplined

    Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia has accepted a 15-game suspension without pay for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

    The 2017 World Baseball Classic set records for attendance, television ratings, digital consumption and merchandise sales. The fourth edition of the premier international baseball tournament concluded with the United States winning its first tournament title by defeating Puerto Rico 8-0 last night at Dodger Stadium.

    The 2017 World Baseball Classic has drawn 976,828, setting the all-time event attendance record through the Second Round. This year's tournament has already surpassed the previous total tournament attendance record of 885,212, set in 2013.

    Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. today announced that he has named Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar as a Special Consultant to Major League Baseball who will focus on youth baseball development and other league goals in Puerto Rico.

    The 2017 World Baseball Classic set numerous tournament attendance records after the completion of the first round of play. The tournament reached record attendance for games played through the first round with 621,851 fans marking a +34% increase over the previous record of 463,017 which was established during the 2013 Classic.

  • Pirates, Cardinals to play "MLB Little League Classic" August 20 in Williamsport

    The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will play a special regular season game to celebrate youth baseball during the 2017 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 20th, Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) jointly announced today. The game will air nationally on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" and ESPN Radio at 7:00 p.m. (ET).

  • 'Honorary Bat Girl' contest available for fans 'Going to Bat Against Cancer'

    Major League Baseball today announced that the 2017 Honorary Bat Girl Contest is now available online at for fans to share stories of how they, or their loved ones, are supporting the cause to raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer. The contest, which launched in 2009, will identify one fan per MLB Club who has a personal connection to the disease and has demonstrated a commitment to battling cancer.
