ST. LOUIS -- As part of a re-organization of the team's baseball operations department, St. Louis Cardinals Senior Vice President/General Manager Walt Jocketty announced today that the team has named Jeff Luhnow (pronounced Lew-no) to the newly-created position of Vice President for Baseball Development and that Assistant General Manager John Mozeliak will add the tasks of scouting director to his areas of responsibility.

Luhnow, 37, is the founder, president and C.O.O. of Archetype Solutions, Inc. - a venture backed technology and software company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has also held the title of G.M. and V.P. of Marketing for Petstore.com and was a Senior Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company.

In his new position, Luhnow will oversee the design, development and implementation of systems and tools that will be used in strategy, scouting and player development as a means to aid the team in its evaluation of players at all levels including the Major Leagues, Minor Leagues, amateur and international levels.

Luhnow, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Business, holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in economics and engineering. He also holds a Masters degree in management from Northwestern University.

"Any edge that a team can gain in evaluating talent is a plus," said Jocketty. "Jeff's unique analysis of players and strategy will compliment the efforts of our scouts at both the professional and amateur levels, making sure that we have the most comprehensive means of evaluating player abilities and trends."

Mozeliak, who last year was named assistant general manager, will continue in his current position while also adding the duties of scouting director to his area of responsibility. Marty Maier, who served as the team's amateur scouting director the past three years, will become a Special Assignment scout and report directly to the General Manager.

Mozeliak, 34, a member of the Cardinals' organization since 1995, served as the team's director of baseball operations from 2001-2002. He held the position of scouting director from 1999-2000 and was the team's assistant scouting director in 1998.

Mozeliak began his baseball career in 1993 as a member of the Colorado Rockies baseball operations staff.
