Carlos Beltran of the Astros named National League Player of the Week
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
Carlos Beltran of the Houston Astros, who led the league with six home runs and a .594 on-base percentage, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for August 23-29, 2004. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Beltran also led the league with a 1.261 slugging percentage and eight walks and was tied for the league best with 10 runs scored and 29 total bases. In seven games, he batted .435 (10-23) with one double, 11 RBI and four stolen bases. It is the first time this year that Carlos has been awarded the NL Player of the Week. He was named the AL Player of the Week for the period of April 12-18.

Other nominees this past week included: Adrian Beltre (.517, 8 runs, 4 HR, 11 RBI) and Kazuhisa Ishii (2-0, 2.03 ERA) of the Dodgers; San Diego's Phil Nevin (.419, 3 doubles, 3 HR, 11 RBI), David Wells (2-0, 2.30 ERA) and Jake Peavy (2-0, 3.75 ERA, 11 SO); Juan Pierre (.458, 2 triples, 6 SB) and A.J. Burnett (2-0, 1.20 ERA, 18 SO) of the Marlins; Houston's Roger Clemens (2-0, 4.85 ERA, 13 SO); Moises Alou (.440, 10 runs, 4 HR, 13 RBI) of the Cubs; Atlanta's Rafael Furcal (.500, three doubles, 2 SB); Jim Edmonds (.353, 1.235 SLG., 5 HR, 10 RBI) of the Cardinals; and San Francisco's Barry Bonds (.333, 3 HR, 9 RBI).
