MILWAUKEE -- The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have placed righthanded pitcher Cal Eldred on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, April 11. Cal has been diagnosed with viral myopericarditis - a viral infection that causes mild inflammation around the lining and muscles of the heart.

Cal will be followed closely by team doctor, Dr. Jim Loomis, and a team of cardiologists from Washington University. He should make a complete recovery but will be out for a minimum of three to four weeks.

To replace Cal on the 25-man roster, the Cardinals have recalled from Triple-A Memphis RHP Jimmy Journell. Journell will wear uniform No. 77.
