St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Mark Mulder, who was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and became the first National League pitcher to throw a 10-inning complete game shutout in almost 16 years, has earned Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for April 18-24, 2005. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

The left-hander led the National League with 18.0 innings pitched and allowed just seven hits, one unearned run and three walks while striking out seven batters. On April 23rd, Mulder became the first National League pitcher to throw a 10-inning complete game shutout since Greg Maddux accomplished the feat on May 11, 1988. The Cardinals went on to a 1-0 extra inning triumph over the Houston Astros. Mulder had earned his first victory as a National Leaguer in an 11-1 win over Pittsburgh on April 18th.

Other nominees this past week included Mulder's fellow St. Louis starters, Chris Carpenter (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 SO) and Matt Morris (2-0, 2.45 ERA, 11 SO); Colorado's Clint Barmes (.500, 3 2B, 10 R), Brad Hawpe (.474, 3 HR, 6 RBI), Matt Holliday (.414, 2 3B, 7 RBI) and Jason Jennings (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 6 SO); Florida's Juan Encarnacion (.320, 1 HR, 9 RBI), Paul Lo Duca (.471, 4 RBI), and Dontrelle Willis (2-0, 3.75 ERA, 11 SO); Victor Diaz (.409, 2 HR, 8 RBI) and Cliff Floyd (.385, 2 HR, 7 RBI) of the New York Mets; Corey Patterson (.333, 3 HR, 3 RBI) and Derrek Lee (.478, 2 HR, 3 RBI) of the Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati's Adam Dunn (.471, 2 HR, 3 RBI); Houston's Roy Oswalt (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 8 SO); Milton Bradley (.433, 3 HR, 8 RBI) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Atlanta's Chipper Jones (.471, 1 HR, 5 RBI); and Milwaukee's Victor Santos (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 4 SO).
