ST. LOUIS, August 17, 2005 - With 20 regular season games remaining to be played at Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have surpassed 3.45 million tickets sold for the season, breaking the previous franchise single-season sales record of 3.43 million that was established in 1989.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the support we've received from our fans," said Cardinals' President Mark Lamping. "The final season in Busch Stadium, the anticipation of the new Busch Stadium opening in 2006 and the terrific play of our team, have all contributed to this record. It's a record that everyone associated with the Cardinals should be proud of - most importantly, our loyal fans."

The Cardinals have announced a team record 30 sellouts this season among their first 61 home dates and they are currently a close second in National League season attendance (2.63 million), behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers (2.73 million). The Cardinals have drawn over 40,000 fans for 22 consecutive home games and in 44 of their first 61 Busch Stadium dates. The team is projecting crowds of over 40,000 for all of the remaining home dates and a total of 45 sellouts for the season.

While tickets still remain for most of the remaining home games, the team is advising fans to make their ticket purchases soon to avoid missing out on the final three home stands of this historic Busch Stadium farewell season. Following this week's home stand with Arizona and San Francisco, the Cardinals will host the Chicago Cubs for three games (Sept. 5-7), the New York Mets for four games (Sept. 8-11) and the Pittsburgh Pirates for three (Sept. 12-14). The final regular-season home stand includes a two-game set (Sept. 27-28) with the Houston Astros and the Busch Stadium farewell weekend series (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) with Cincinnati. The final two home games, Oct. 1 & 2, are sold out.

Fans can order their Cardinals tickets at the Busch Stadium ticket office, participating Schnucks Video Clubs, Cardinals Clubhouse stores and St. Louis area Sports Authorities, via the internet at stlcardinals.com or by phone by calling the Cardinals charge lines at 314/421-2400.
