ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals today released their spring training schedule for the 2006 season. The 32-game Florida slate begins with an exhibition game against Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday, February 28, at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL. The Cardinals will open the regular portion of the Grapefruit League schedule on Thursday, March 2, when the Mets visit Jupiter for a 1:05 p.m. start time.

The Cardinals will play 20 games at Roger Dean Stadium, including the college tilt and three games as the visiting team in games against the Florida Marlins, co-tenants of the spring training complex in Jupiter. In all, the Cards will face off with the Marlins six times this spring. The 2006 spring schedule also features two games with the Yankees, one in Tampa and one in Jupiter, the first time since 1997 that the teams will meet in Grapefruit League action. The home portion of the two-game set with the Bronx Bombers is a St. Patrick's Day matinee at RDS. The Cards will continue its spring tradition with the Braves, with back-to-back games against the defending N.L. East champs on March 12th and 13th at Disney, with a return engagement March 19th and 20th at Jupiter. The Cardinals will also play host to the new-look New York Mets three times, while playing them seven times total, and also welcome the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals to Jupiter during the 2006 spring season. This coming spring marks the ninth year that the Cardinals will train at Roger Dean Stadium.

All Cardinals spring exhibition games will be played in the state of Florida, with the final game at Roger Dean Stadium on April 1 versus the Mets, two days prior to the 2006 season opener at Philadelphia.

The Cardinals' pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Jupiter on February 16, with their first workout the next day. The remainder of the Cardinals players are scheduled to report February 20 and have their initial workout the following day.
