Indians finalize 2006 staff alignment for player development system
Sarbaugh promoted to Kinston; Odor returns to Mahoning Valley; Higgins to guide Burlington

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians & Director of Player Development JOHN FARRELL today announced the remaining staff assignments for the 2006 Player Development System. Today, Farrell appointed MIKE SARBAUGH Manager at Kinston, ROUGLAS ODOR Manager at Mahoning Valley and KEVIN HIGGINS Manager of Burlington.

Sarbaugh, 38, earned a promotion to Kinston after guiding the Lake County Captains to a 72-66 (.522) record last year. A member of the Indians organization as either a player or coach for the past 16 years, this will mark his third different managerial stop in three seasons as he made his debut in 2004 as the skipper at Mahoning Valley. STEVE LYONS will return to Kinston for the second consecutive season as he will serve as the Pitching Coach on Sarbaugh's staff with MICHAEL SALAZAR also returning as the Athletic Trainer.

Odor, 37, will return to Mahoning Valley after guiding the Scrappers to a 33-43 record in 2005. Prior to managing at Mahoning Valley, Odor spent four season as the skipper at Burlington. He has a career managerial record of 161-185 (.465). KEN ROWE will serve as Odor's Pitching Coach at Mahoning Valley after spending each of the past two seasons with the AAA Buffalo Bisons. CHRIS TREMIE will serve as a coach at Mahoning Valley while also assuming the role of Roving Catching Instructor in the organization after concluding a 13-year playing career. JIM RICKON will also serve as a coach on Odor's staff after making his coaching debut with the Lake County Captains last season. JEREMY HELLER meanwhile will begin his first season in the Tribe system as the Athletic Trainer of the Scrappers.

Higgins, 51, will begin his first season as a Manager in the Indians Player Development System as he will manage the Burlington Indians. Last year Higgins served as a coach at Burlington after spending the previous five seasons as the hitting coach at Staten Island in the New York Yankees organization. Serving on Higgins' staff will be Pitching Coach TONY ARNOLD and Coach DENNIS MALAVE. Arnold, in his 14th season in the Indians minor league system served as the pitching coach at Mahoning Valley last season. Meanwhile Malave will be making his coaching debut after spending nine seasons as a player in the Indians organization. TEDDY BLACKWELL will also return to Burlington to serve as the Athletic Trainer. This will mark Blackwell's fourth consecutive season at Burlington.
