White Sox announce 2006 player development instructors and staff

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox announced their on-field player development staff for the 2006 season, including managerial changes at all levels of the Sox farm system.
With three exceptions, the entire player development staff returns intact from 2005, but only seven of the White Sox player development staff return to their same post in 2006. Alan Regier, who spent the past two seasons as a professional scout with Boston, joins the organization as field coordinator, Tack Wilson is the new hitting coach at Class AAA Charlotte, and Omer Munoz will manage Class A Kannapolis.
"As an organization, we have one of the most experienced player development staffs in baseball and we will continue to make adjustments in order to provide our players with the best education," said David Wilder, White Sox director of player development.
Razor Shines, who was named the Southern League Manager of the Year in 2005, will take over as manager at Charlotte after leading Class AA Birmingham to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2004-05. Under Shines' direction, the Barons went 82-57 last season, the most wins since they won 88 games in their 1989 championship season.
After leading Class A Winston-Salem to the playoffs in his first season with the club in 2005, Chris Cron moves to Birmingham, and Rafael Santana, who spent the 2003-04 seasons as the White Sox first base coach, will make his managerial debut with the Warthogs.
Tommy Thompson, who has served as the White Sox minor league catching coordinator for the last 14 seasons, takes over as manager for Advanced Rookie Great Falls, while Nick Leyva returns to Advanced Rookie Bristol after stints as the White Sox minor league infield instructor (2003-04) and Charlotte's manager (2005).
In other changes to the player development staff, Andy Tomberlin has been named hitting coach at Birmingham, while J.R. Perdew (pitching coach) and Ryan Long (hitting coach) were added to Winston-Salem's staff. Sean Snedeker (pitching) and Joe Hall (hitting) will fill out Munoz's bench at Kannapolis, and Curt Hasler (pitching) and Jerry Hairston (hitting) complete the staff at Great Falls.
Jim Snyder, who spent the last 12 seasons as director of instruction for the White Sox minor-league system, has also been named Special Assistant to the Director of Player Development.
