Wells swell in tuneup for season
Righty tosses 6 1/3 strong innings in final Spring Training start

Thursday, March 29 Marlins at the plate: Anibal Sanchez singled, Hanley Ramirez doubled and Dan Uggla had an RBI single in a two-run third inning. Ramirez scored on David Eckstein's throwing error on Uggla's infield hit. Joe Borchard smoked a two-run homer in the ninth inning to knot the game at 4. Cardinals at the plate: Yadier Molina's two-out opposite-field single made it 1-0 in the second inning. Scott Rolen doubled and scored on the flare to right. In the third, Jim Edmonds' RBI double and Adam Kennedy's sacrifice fly enabled the Cardinals to regain a 3-2 lead. Albert Pujols doubled to center in the fifth. Jolbert Cabrera's chopped infield single drove in a run in the ninth inning. Skip Schumaker, who singled, scored the fourth run. Marlins on the mound: Sanchez gave up three runs on nine hits in six innings, striking out six while not walking a batter. The team's No. 3 starter, Sanchez hit a batter, and logged 97 pitches (68 strikes). Closer Jorge Julio made his Marlins debut, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout. Cardinals on the mound: Kip Wells threw 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) with one walk and seven strikeouts. The right-hander threw 93 pitches, 59 for strikes.
Grapefruit League records: Marlins 12-16-3; Cardinals 15-10-1.Up next: Wrapping up their Grapefruit League schedule, the Marlins travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla., to face the Mets on Friday at 12:10 p.m. CT. Ricardo Rodriguez is slated to start for Florida, while the Mets are going with Scott Schoeneweis.
The Cardinals are taking to the road for Friday's game and will play their Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, in Memphis at 7:05 p.m. Anthony Reyes will get the start for St. Louis, while Memphis is going with Blake Hawksworth.
