Mozeliak Chat Transcript

John Mozeliak: Good afternoon, I will try to answer as many questions as possible. I thank you all for taking the time today and showing your strong interest in the St. Louis Cardinals.

mlbman00: Q: How would you rate the move of Skip Schumaker to second base?

John Mozeliak: Skip has done a great job for us. This was not an easy move to make but he worked extremely hard and is playing well.

clayquicke: Q: Is there a chance we will see Michell Boggs anymore this year? He looked pretty good when he was up.

John Mozeliak: Boggs did well when he had opportunities and given how are starters are currently pitching he is better off pitching every fifth day in Memphis. It is nice to know we have him there if we need help.

insomniac24: Q: If Troy Glaus is to be out longer than anticipated, are you looking into aquiring another solution to third base? I have heard rumors of Mark DeRosa and such.

John Mozeliak: We first need to be sure of Troy's status, but if he does not come back then we will have to look outside for help. We will explore all our options.

RyanSweeny15: Q: is pujols a future hall of famer?

John Mozeliak: YES!

cardinal70: Q: With Ludwick coming off the DL tomorrow, what will be the corresponding move?

John Mozeliak: We are excited to get Luddy back but with regard to the move I will reserve my rights and make that decision tomorrow.

futhey: Q: What our your thoughts and plans for Kinney?

John Mozeliak: Josh is throwing well in Memphis and should we need help he is someone that I would have a lot of confidence calling up.

dbeard08: Q: Mr. Mozeliak, what is your thoughts on Brendan Ryan? He seems like he has improved a lot on defense and has provided a nice spark offensively despite having just a .242 average. If Khalil Greene has to go on the DL, I think Ryan should be given the chance

John Mozeliak: Brendan has been great, especially on defense. He brings energy to our line-up and has shown positive signs at the plate. Between him and Tyler Greene they have been a pleasure to watch.

elster39: Q: John, what are your projections for uber-prospect Colby Rasmus when he reaches his peak, barring any injury?

John Mozeliak: Colby has a very high ceiling and has made adjustments early during the season. So far he has impressed and I believe he will continue to do so.

tom1234546: Q: Hows Jaime Garcia coming along?

John Mozeliak: Jaime has been cleared to throw off the mound and is still projected to pitch in a game by September.

ajfreg: Q: Hi John, Can the Cardinals go all the way to win it all with the pitching that you have? and how about the hitting? Thanks, Al Deer Park, NY

John Mozeliak: We have a strong team but our division is difficult. I do think if we continue to play hard and compete we will be in this race all year.

rmb715: Q: John, how valuable is Joe Thurston to the team? I know he can play 2B and 3B. Can he do any outfield work like some of the utility guys you've had in the past?

John Mozeliak: Joe has been a great fit to this club and I credit John Vuch for getting him signed he did a great job. Joe gives Tony a lot of options.

heflion: Q: why not give brett wallace a chance at 3rd base

John Mozeliak: Mr. Wallace has moved quickly through our system and we want to see him playing everyday as he continues to develop. If we feel he is ready then we will consider it but at this time I feel that is premature.

flim2flam: Q: What was your reseasoning for switching Jess Todd from Starter to Reliever?

John Mozeliak: As a reliever we thought he could make a quicker jump to the big leagues if needed as well as we thought his skills were better suited for the pen.

cardsoct09: Q: Mo, the draft is coming up. In the first round, is your philosophy more geared towards the best player available or draft for need? Also, there are not too many high 2B prospect in the minor league system. Will that be a high priority in this draft?

John Mozeliak: We are looking at the draft as best player available but we do need consider our needs. But for the first pick we likely go with the best player.

cardinal70: Q: At this time, does it look like Kyle Lohse will have to go on the DL and, if so, who will come up to take his slot?

John Mozeliak: Lohse did feel better yesterday so we should have a better idea tomorrow but I hope he can avoid the DL.

spenwi5: Q: Who is the next possible "ace" pitcher that the cards are grooming in their farm system?

John Mozeliak: Lance Lynn is off to a strong start and has a very bright future.

cards203: Q: any big bats in the farm system that most fans are not aware of, that may be called up this year?

John Mozeliak: John Jay and Allen Craig are both at AAA and starting to swing the bat better, they would be the closest. Daryl Jones continues to impress at AA as well.

3-6-3dp: Q: Mr. Mozeliak, What is the latest on Rick Ankiel?

John Mozeliak: Ankiel should be ready by tomorrow.

bgh87: Q: What is the club's philosophy on the Rule V draft? Do you target positions or simply attempt to get the best player?

John Mozeliak: Rule V is a difficult process because of the roster spot. Pending on if you feel you can compete is a difficult, easier to carry a pitcher than a position player.

rzblitz: Q: what will happen to nick stavinoha when ludwick and ankiel are back in shape?

John Mozeliak: Nick has had some good at bats this year and pleased that he is doing so well. Being right-handed he does have value and we will try to keep him on our roster. All moves will be determined tomorrow.

John Mozeliak: Thank you, great questions but I have to run. Go Cardinals!
