Medical center to bear Pujols' name

Slugger has been an advocate for Down syndrome patients

A new center for adults with Down syndrome is slated to bear Albert Pujols' name when it opens in November, The Associated Press reported Thursday.

At that time, St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo., plans to open the Albert Pujols Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome, a not-for-profit center that is the first of its kind in the state.

Pujols has a stepdaughter, Isabella, with Down syndrome and is also founder of the Pujols Family Foundation, which provides assistance to people with Down syndrome as well as to children and orphans in the Dominican Republic.

The Cardinals' first baseman designated a $70,000 award from the Major League Baseball Trust to help open the center.
