Stavinoha, Craig pace Redbirds' offense

Top pick Miller impresses in scoreless inning of work

Cardinals at the plate: The Redbirds were able to put runs on the board in the fourth inning off Livan Hernandez. Nick Stavinoha drove in a run with a single, while Joe Mather walked with the bases loaded. Allen Craig broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh with an RBI double and David Freese added to the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Nationals at the plate: The Nationals scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Adam Kennedy had an RBI triple, while Kennedy came home on a single by Ryan Zimmerman. Mike Morse plated Willy Taveras in the ninth.

Cardinals on the mound: Adam Wainwright pitched four innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Adam Ottavino pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Shelby Miller, the Redbirds' top pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, struck out one in one scoreless inning.

Nationals on the mound: Stephen Strasburg had another solid outing, pitching three shutout innings, while giving up three hits. Hernandez pitched three innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits. Tyler Clippard allowed in five runs (three earned) in just 1 1/3 innings.

Worth noting: Zimmerman continues his hot hitting, going 1-for-3. He is now hitting .400 in the Grapefruit League.

Grapefruit League records: Nationals 0-10; Cardinals 5-5

Up next: Right-hander Garrett Mock will make his third start of the spring Monday at 7:05 p.m. ET against the Braves at Space Coast Stadium live on MLB.TV. Mock has yet to walk a batter in five innings.

The Cardinals visit the Mets at 12:10 p.m. CT live on MLB.TV in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Right-hander Brad Penny will be on the mound for St. Louis.
