"I think he deserves to be there," Descalso said. "And we're going to do our best to make sure the fans vote him in."

Now in its 11th year, the 2012 All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote presented by Firestone gives baseball fans around the world the opportunity to select the final player on each All-Star team. Balloting began immediately following Sunday's MLB All-Star Game Selection Show presented by Taco Bell and continues until Thursday, July 5, at 3 p.m. CT. The winners will be announced on MLB.com shortly thereafter.
To receive the mobile ballot, text "VOTE" to 89269. To vote for Freese, simply text "N2" to 89269. Mobile voting is also available in Canada; text choices to 101010. Standard rates may apply.
The Cardinals have been encouraging their fans on Twitter to use the hashtag #FreesePlease, and both Descalso and Jay have been leading the charge. Descalso, a native of California, has been trying to get his followers back home on the Freese campaign trail. Descalso even tweeted Golden State Warriors power forward David Lee, encouraging him to vote for Freese.
St. Louis native and Grammy Award winning hip-hop artist Nelly has also gotten in on the Twitter campaign, asking his more than 2.4 million followers to vote Freese.
The club is also offering a special offer. Those who select Freese as the 2012 Final Vote choice by 2:59 p.m. CT on Thursday will be entered into the Cardinals' 2012 Vote Freese All-Star Game Final Vote Sweepstakes. One winner will receive four Field Box tickets and four UMB Champions Club Passes for the game against the Pirates on Saturday, Aug. 18.
"I know he's got a couple of other guys that are going to be pushing hard all across baseball," manager Mike Matheny said. "But David has a very strong following here, has had a strong season, so hopefully he gets a good push."
Freese's .279 batting average is third best among NL third basemen, and his 48 RBIs are the fifth most among Major League third basemen. He's joined on the Final Vote ballot by Braves outfielder Michael Bourn and third baseman Chipper Jones, Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and D-backs second baseman Aaron Hill.
"With the crew that I'm in company with, it's going to be tough," Freese said on Monday. "Chipper's in his last year, Harper's obviously got a lot of attention and the other guys are deserving."
Jay has told Freese to use his own Twitter account (@dfreese23) to provide a link to the voting site, but campaigning for himself isn't quite Freese's style.
"All day I've been online, voting," Freese joked. "No, I'm getting a lot of support from a lot of people. This is fun to be in this final five with that company. We're going to have some fun with it and see how it plays out. I wish we all could go, but who knows what will happen."
