Cardinals add six to roster; Wacha set to start tonight; PCL HR leader Peterson recalled

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have added six players to their roster including right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha who is scheduled to start tonight's game in Cincinnati. Wacha, along with left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons and right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez were recalled today from Springfield (AA). Brock Peterson, the Pacific Coast League's leading home run hitter, and infielder Ryan Jackson, were both recalled from Memphis (AAA) and catcher Audry Perez was purchased from Memphis.
The Cardinals recalled outfielder Adron Chambers from Memphis (AAA) and activated catcher Tony Cruz (left forearm) from the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game.
Wacha, 22, was 5-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 15 starts at Memphis this season. He is 2-0, 3.78 ERA in 10 games (4 starts) for St. Louis, striking out 37 in 33.1 innings pitched, including seven in his 4.0 innings of relief last Wed. (Aug. 28) vs. Cincinnati.
Lyons, 25, was 7-2, 3.32 ERA for Memphis in 17 games (16 starts). The rookie lefty is 2-4, 4.73 ERA in 9 games (8 starts) for St. Louis.
Martinez, 21, was a combined 6-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 16 starts between Springfield (AA) and Memphis (AAA) this season. He's gone 1-1 in 12 games (one start) for the Cardinals.
Peterson, 29, finished his 2013 All-Star campaign at Memphis with a league-leading 25 home runs and a league-best .531 slugging pct. He also batted .296 with 84 RBI (4th in PCL) and a .895 OPS (2nd). In 11 games with the Cardinals this season, the right-handed hitting Peterson has batted .154 with 2 RBI.
Jackson, 25, batted .278 with 3 home runs and 34 RBI for Memphis this year, finishing third on the team in both hits (123) and games played (121). Jackson committed just 9 errors in 406 total chances and finished 2nd among PCL fielding pct. leaders at shortstop (.978). The right-handed hitting Jackson appeared in two games for the Cardinals earlier this season after playing in 13 games as a rookie in 2012.
Perez, 24, batted .210 with 6 home runs and 33 RBI in 82 combined games with Springfield and Memphis. The right-handed hitting catcher threw out 40 pct. (31-of-77) of attempted base-stealers. He becomes the 20th rookie to appear on the Cardinals roster this season.
Wacha wears uniform #52, Lyons #70, Martinez #62, Peterson #4, Jackson #8 and Perez #63.
