Cards' safe call stands, leads to run vs. Cubs
By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com
CHICAGO -- Cubs manager Rick Renteria challenged whether the Cardinals' Jon Jay was safe at third on a stolen-base attempt Saturday.
With the game tied at 2 in the St. Louis seventh, Jay was at second with one out, and he broke for third. Luis Valbuena made the initial tag, but it appeared that Jay's foot may have come off the base. Valbuena immediately pointed to the dugout and Renteria asked for a replay review. After a 1 minute, 59 second review, the call stood and Jay was safe.
Matt Carpenter then hit a grounder to first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who threw home. But Jay avoided catcher Welington Castillo's tag, and the Cardinals went ahead, 3-2.
