Slowey suffers left lat strain; next start up in air
After five impressive innings on Wednesday night, Kevin Slowey took the mound to warm up for the sixth. But before throwing a pitch, Marlins manager Mike Redmond and assistant trainer Mike Kozak were called to check on the 29-year-old righty. The club announced he has a left lat strain, and will be re-evaluated Thursday.

Blanked by Phils' Lee, Marlins lose Slowey to injury
The Marlins lost potentially more than a game in a 3-0 defeat against the Phillies on Wednesday night in front of 15,520 at Marlins Park. Miami starter Kevin Slowey left the contest after five innings with a left lat strain in his lower back. He exited the field with a trainer shortly after going out to warm up before the top of the sixth.

Okla. tornado hits close to home for Ruggiano, Dobbs
The devastation caused in tornado-stricken Oklahoma on Monday hit close to home for a couple of Marlins. Justin Ruggiano, who lives in Texas, opened the 2012 season playing at Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Astros' organization. And Greg Dobbs, a California native, attended the University of Oklahoma.

Back from surgery, Danks slated for season debut
The White Sox will get a major piece of their rotation back on Friday night, when John Danks -- who hasn't pitched since last season -- takes the ball for the opener of a three-game Interleague series against the Marlins at U.S. Cellular Field. Right-hander Tom Koehler gets the nod for Miami, making his third start of the year.

Fernandez effective, but bullpen can't keep it close
Rookie right-hander Jose Fernandez kept the Marlins in the game for five innings as he allowed just one run, but the bullpen could not follow suit. Miami's relievers gave up six runs in a 7-3 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday night at Marlins Park.

Redmond says Sanabia spitting on ball 'unintentional'
Marlins righty Alex Sanabia picked up a victory Monday as well as some unwanted publicity. Sanabia gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings. But it was that one run -- a home run to Domonic Brown in the second inning -- that drew some attention and raised a bit of controversy.

McKeon, Beck to represent Marlins at Draft
With four of the first 73 picks, including the sixth overall, the Marlins promise to be among the most active teams at the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. Jack McKeon, who managed the organization's 2003 World Series title team, will once again be on hand at the MLB Network to kick off the Draft in early June.

Eovaldi to throw bullpen session Wednesday
At last, the Marlins are receiving some encouraging news on their injury front. Nathan Eovaldi, on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. If that goes well, he is expected to begin his rehab assignment with Class A Jupiter on Saturday.

After using 43 lineups in the first 44 games, Marlins manager Mike Redmond decided to try some continuity. After defeating the D-backs and left-hander Wade Miley, 2-1, on Sunday to snap a season-long seven-game losing streak, Redmond batted the same first eight against Phillies southpaw Cole Hamels on Monday.
