Ponson's gem not enough

Making his first start in nearly two weeks, Sidney Ponson cruised through the first seven innings as he allowed only one run. The Tigers finally chased the right-hander in the eighth and tacked on a couple of insurance runs against the Cardinals' bullpen.

Curtis Granderson's RBI double in the eighth inning put the Tigers on top, and Placido Polanco and Ivan Rodriguez followed with run-scoring hits to help wrap up a sweep. Jeremy Bonderman fanned eight over seven innings, but did not figure in the decision.
