of the 1989 World Championship

On July 19 the A's organization and fans welcomed the 1989 World Series championship team back to Oakland. The two-day celebration featured appearances by players from the 1989 team, including 1989 World Series Most Valuable Player Dave Stewart, Hall of Famers Rickey Henderson, Dennis Eckersley and Manager Tony La Russa, as well as Jose Canseco, Dave Henderson, Carney Lansford, Dave Parker, current A's coaches Mike Gallego and Curt Young, along with Lance Blankenship, Todd Burns, Mike Moore, Ken Phelps, Tony Phillips, and 1989 coaches Merv Rettenmund and Tommie Reynolds. Each player from the 1989 team was welcomed to the field on a red carpet flanked by the 2014 Oakland A's. The 1989 team placed yellow roses on the pitcher's mound and wore patches with the initials BW to honor the late Bob Welch.

Proceeds from all the events totaling $40,000 benefited the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, the preferred charity of Dave Henderson.
