Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum

This month in Cardinals history

February marks the return to baseball annually in the form of spring training. And, though the month is known more for those sweet feelings around Valentine's Day, it sometimes involves different emotions from the loved one's of ballplayers, as evidenced by this poem written by Mary Schoendienst, the late wife of former Hall of Fame player and manager Red Schoendienst.

Excerpts include:
"She loves going to Florida and spring training.
She's a whiz [sic] at packing a suitcase.
She spends birthdays and anniversaries usually without her husband.
But she loves every minute of the exciting and thrilling life of a ballplayer's wife
Oh yes! She knows that the best managers have red hair!"

Interesting Fact

No. 2 celebrates annually on 2/2 … his birthday that is! Hall of Fame player and manager Red Schoendienst, who is also known for having worn uniform No. 2 for over 60 years with the Cardinals, really digs the deuce. Happy birthday, Red!
