Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Maddon, players, coaches, executives, and staff will shave their heads as part of the 2013 Bright House Networks Cut for a Cure Charity Challenge presented by Carrabba's Italian Grill benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The Rays aim to raise $20,000 at the second annual head shaving event.
Rays players and coaches will wear special "Fortune Favors the Bald" t-shirts during batting practice before the game on Friday, March 15th. The slogan is a twist on Rays Manager Joe Maddon's "Fortune Favors the Bold" inspirational sign that hangs in the Rays clubhouse. T-Shirts will be available for purchase for $15.99 beginning Friday at the Rays' stores at Tropicana Field and Charlotte Sports Park, the Rays Tampa Store at 400 N. Tampa St., Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Moffitt Cancer Center and All Children's Hospital with all proceeds benefitting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Moffitt Cancer Center and All Children's Hospital.
"We hope to make this a Rays' tradition every spring," said Maddon. "While this is, of course, really about supporting the kids and their families, it served as a great moment for our organization, perhaps one of the most important ever because we all stood up together for a cause so meaningful. And it is something we are excited to introduce to our new players each year. As an organization, we are proud to support organizations and institutions like the Pediatric Cancer Foundation."
