Coaching career 

Is in his second season with the D-backs as First Base Coach and 32nd on a Major League coaching staff. Was First Base Coach on 3 World Series championship clubs: 1989 A's and 2006 and 2011 Cardinals. Spent 2 seasons as First Base Coach with the Cubs (2012- 13) where he also served as the club's Outfeld Coach… credited with Alfonso Soriano's defensive improvement in left feld, going from a .961 felding percentage (25 E) in 382 games from 2009-11 to .986 (6 E in 241 games) from 2012 until his trade to the Yankees on July 26, 2012. Served on Tony La Russa's coaching staff for 27 straight seasons (1984-2011), including 16 straight at frst base with the A's (1989-95) and Cardinals (1996-2011). Began his coaching career as a player-coach in Oakland's Minor League system in 1983.

Playing career
Hit .229 with 70 doubles, 15 triples, 21 home runs and 170 RBI in 645 Major League games with the Twins (1975-76), Blue Jays (1977-79) and A's (1980-82)... Made his Major League debut on Aug. 22, 1975 vs. Tigers and homered in his frst career at-bat (off Vern Ruhle)…hit safely in 21 of his frst 22 games... Selected by the Blue Jays in the ffth round (49th overall) of the 1976 Expansion Draft…was the frst Canadian-born player to appear with Toronto, going 2-for-4 with a RBI in the club's inaugural game on April 7, 1977 vs. White Sox... Appeared in 6 postseason games with the A's in 1981, going 6-for-22 (.273) with 1 homer and 2 RBI…hit a solo homer in Game 3 of the ALDS vs. Royals (off Larry Gura)... Signed by the Twins as a free agent on June 20, 1971.


David Lawrence McKay. Married to Lene…has a son, Cody, who was a catcher in the Cardinals' organization from 2004-05. Inducted into the Canadian National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Attended Columbia Basin Junior College in Pasco, Wash. and Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
