In addition to the work that Blue Jays players, coaches and staff do within the community, the organization is extremely proud of the Lady Jays and the time and effort they spend making Toronto a better place. Each year the Lady Jays support the following organizations:
On August 8, 9, and 10, the Lady Jays will be hosting the 30th Annual Lady Jays Food Drive in support of Food Banks Canada. Fans will be able to donate non-perishable food items, provide monetary donations, and purchase mystery bags.
The Lady Jays Food Drive is the Blue Jays' longest standing community initiative, and each year raises awareness about hunger and food bank use in Canada. The food donations are shared with Food Banks Canada's local Affiliate Member food bank: Daily Bread Food Bank. Daily Bread Food Bank supports approximately 170 member agencies that operate a variety of food relief programs across Toronto. Financial proceeds are directed to Food Banks Canada to support its national programs.
Food Banks Canada supports ten provincial associations and over 480 food banks nationally. Through Food Banks Canada's National Food Sharing System, every dollar raised helps to acquire and share $20 worth of food and consumer products with individuals who require assistance. Food Banks Canada' works to alleviate hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.
In 2013 the Food Drive was a huge success, and with a generous donation of $5,000 from Jays Care Foundation, over $32,500 was raised for Food Banks Canada. In addition to monetary donations, there was a total of 4,361 pounds of non-perishable food items collected.
On May 15, 2014, the Lady Jays will be volunteering to assist with the Sportsnet Charity Broadcast Auction presented by TD, held at Rogers Centre. The event, which raises funds for the Jays Care Foundation, allows fans to bid on Blue Jays packages containing exclusive experiences and collections of memorabilia.
The Lady Jays will be answering phones and assisting buyers bidding on the various prize packages throughout the baseball game.
